Hygienist FAQs
Does the hygienist hurt?
Your comfort is our priority. We use the latest techniques with modern technology to ensure your hygiene treatment is quick and painless. Our experienced and friendly dental hygienists will guide you through the process step by step. While you may experience some discomfort, particularly if your teeth require a deep cleaning, your hygiene treatment should not hurt.
If you are nervous about visiting the hygienist, have dental anxiety or sensitive teeth let us know and we can discuss ways to maximise your comfort.
Is a dental hygienist necessary?
Dental hygiene treatments are necessary to maintain excellent oral health. Visiting a dental hygienist regularly will not only keep your gums healthy, it is known to help prevent oral cancer. A polished smile and better smelling breath are a great bonus.
How long is a hygienist appointment?
Book a hygienist appointment at our award-winning dental clinics for either 30 or 60 minutes, depending on whether you need a standard or deep clean.
How often should you see a dental hygienist?
We recommend all patients have regular hygiene treatments at least once to twice a year alongside your regular dental check ups.
Our dental hygienists will also advise you on maintaining oral health between cleaning examinations.
Hygienist vs dentist
Understanding the difference between dentists and dental hygienists can be helpful so you know what to expect from your appointment.
Dental hygienists are responsible for preventing and treating oral diseases through examination, cleaning and other preventative dental care. Regular hygiene treatments will help you to maintain a high standard of oral health through the removal of tartar and plaque, and by highlighting any issues early.
Your dentist is responsible for conducting check-ups, diagnosing dental problems, guiding you through a treatment plan, carrying out more advanced procedures and referring you to specialists as required.
