How often should I see my dentist?

We recommend you visit your dentist every 6 months to ensure we are monitoring your oral and dental health. A full assessment will take around 30 minutes and allow the dentist to track any progress with dental health issues such as tooth decay and gum disease. Regular check ups can help prevent decay and tooth loss.

What is tooth decay?

Tooth decay is the softening of your tooth enamel, this can be caused by acids which bacteria produce when breaking down sugar in your mouth. Softening of your enamel can damaged the structure of your tooth. Tooth decay if left untreated an cause a cavity (a hole in your tooth) which will continue to grow and will require treatment depending on the severity. Treatment for a cavity may include a filling, root canal or an extraction if the damage to the structure of the tooth is severe.

How to prevent tooth decay?

We recommend you maintain a good oral hygiene routine, brushing with a floride containing tooth paste at least twice a day to remove any food debris which can cause decay. In addition to regular 6 monthly check ups with the dentist to assess your dental and oral health.

You can find out more about preventing tooth decay your dental check up in MyHealthcare Clinic Fulham or Wandsworth

How do you treat gum disease?

Gum disease is treated in a number of ways, depending on the severity of the case. If you are suffering with gum disease your dentist may recommend you have a hygeinist appointments to help to remove plaque. Some case may require root planing may be required, which helps to clean deep into the root of your tooth under the gums to get rid of bacteria. You may be offered local anaesthetic to numb you for these types of proceedures. For more severe cases of gum disease, you may require preiodontal surgery or it may be necessary to remove the tooth.

To avoid gum disease and periodontal treatment we recommend you maintain good oral hygiene and have a dental check up every 6 months to assess your dental and oral health.

How do I know if I need a root canal?

Signs of infection severe enough to require a root canal include:
