Travel restrictions vary from country to country for individuals travelling from the UK with some requiring you to quarantine upon arrival, provide a certificate for travel, a negative COVID-19 swab, complete health control forms or health assessments prior to your journey or upon your arrival.
If you have plans to travel internationally over the next few weeks, you may be required to have a certificate for travel showing a recent negative test result for Coronavirus in some countries.
Travel to most of Europe from the UK is now possible without a COVID-19 test. However, you may be subject to a 14-day self-isolation period. Find out which European countries require COVID-19 Swab test results before you travel and details for our most commonly requested information below.
Travel is restricted across most of Africa from the UK, those who are able to travel often require proof of a negative COVID-19 Swab test in the last few days before travel. Find out about your destination in our detailed country guide.
Travel to the USA and Canada is currently restricted to those who are Canadian or USA residents or citizens respectively. However, you may be subject to a 14-day self-isolation period in most European countries. Travel to Central America and the Caribbean may also be restricted.
Many parts of South America are restricted to travel from the UK. Restrictions for travel to South America vary, with many countries requiring proof of a negative COVID-19 Swab test in the last few days before travel.

Travel Information for COVID-19 PCR Swab Testing by Country
Spain: Does not require COVID-19 Swab testing for travel from the UK.
Passengers must complete an “FCS health control form” 48 hours before arrival at spth.gob.es. A QR code generated from the completed form must be presented upon arrival.
France: Does not require COVID-19 Swab testing for travel from the UK.
Travellers must complete and present and International Travel Certificate prior to boarding and to Immigration upon arrival or when transiting France. The certificate must be obtained before departure via the French consular offices abroad or online at https://www.interieur.gouv.fr.
Passengers arriving in France are subject to quarantine or isolation and must present a completed declaration on honour to state that they do not have symptoms of Coronavirus (COVID-19). The declaration must be dated with the name and signature of the passenger.
Portugal: COVID-19 Swab testing is required for travel to some areas of Portugal when flying from the UK.
On arrival in mainland Portugal, you will be subject to health screening. If travelling to Madeira or the Azores, you must take a COVID-19 test before you travel or on arrival.
Passengers are subject to quarantine if they do not have a certificate with a negative Coronavirus (COVID-19) result issued at most 72 hours before departure.
Italy: Does not require COVID-19 Swab testing for travel from the UK.
Travellers arriving in Italy directly from the UK are now usually exempt from the requirement to self-isolate.
You will only need to self-isolate if you travelled outside the UK in the 14 days prior to your arrival in Italy or; you will be arriving in Italy from a country for which there are still self-isolation requirements (Ministry of Foreign Affairs website).
Greece: Does not require COVID-19 Swab testing prior to travel from the UK.
If you are travelling to Greece, you will need to complete a Passenger Locator Form at least 48 hours before travel. You may be required to take a test for coronavirus (COVID-19) after you arrive in Greece and undergo a period of self-isolation.
Other European countries which require a COVID-19 Swab test prior to travel include:
- Cyprus (Legal Residents only, UK citizens are not permitted to travel)
- Austria (for travellers wishing to avoid 14-day quarantine, the test must be in the last 4 days)
- Slovakia: British nationals must have proof of a negative COVID-19 test before entering Slovakia and must self-isolate on arrival.

USA: Travel is currently restricted for those who have been in the UK in the last 14 days.
It is currently not possible to travel to the United States of America if you have been in the UK in the last 14 days unless you are a US citizen, permanent resident, a family member or hold a vis which is currently on the list of approved visa types for travel to the USA. That allowed entry to the USA must be prepared to self-isolate for up to 14 days after arrival. They are not currently required to have a COVID-19 PCR swab test before they travel.
Canada: Travel is currently restricted for those who have been in the UK in the last 14 days.
Travel to Canada is currently restricted unless you are a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, immediate family member or temporary foreign workers, and some international students. Those who are permitted to enter Canada are not currently required to have a COVID-19 PCR swab before they travel, but are required to self-isolate for 14 days after their arrival.
Entry to Mexico is possible and currently requires a “Cuestionario de indentificacion de factores de riesgo en viajeros” to be presented to “immigration” upon arrival. The form can be found at https://afac.hostingerapp.com.
Most Central American Countries are currently restricted.
Countries in North America which require COVID-19 PCR swab testing include: Bahamas (proof of a negative result must be issued in the 10 days before travel), Antigua and Barbuda (proof of negative results must be issued in the 7 days before travel), Saint Lucia (must present a medical certificate with a negative COVID-19 test result issued at most 48 hours before arrival).
Restrictions across Asia vary. The following countries require a negative COVID-19 PCR Swab Test to travel.
Azerbaijan: Travel is restricted to citizens and nationals. Passengers must have a medical certificate with a negative Coronavirus (COVID-19) test result issued at most 48 hours before departure.
Bangladesh: Travel is restricted from the UK unless you have a business visa approved for travel and have a medical certificate with a negative Coronavirus (COVID-19) test result issued at most 72 hours before arrival.
Brunei: Entry is restricted, however passengers with a special consideration are subject to Coronavirus (COVID-19) testing in Brunei.
Indonesia: Entry to Indonesia is restricted for most, those who are permitted are listed here. Passengers and airline crew who travel to Indonesia must have a medical certificate with a negative Coronavirus (COVID-19) PCR test result issued in the 7 days prior to arrival.
Laos: Those permitted to travel may require a medical certificate with a negative Coronavirus (COVID-19) test result and a ‘Fit to Fly’ certificate issued no more than 72 hours prior to travel.
Lebanon: Passengers must have a medical certificate with a negative Coronavirus (COVID-19) PCR test result issued at most 96 hours before arrival.
Malaysia: Travel to Malaysia is restricted for most, however you may be permitted to travel if you have a second home in Malaysia or are a student in Malaysia with a medical certificate proving a negative Coronavirus (COVID-19) PCR test result issued at most 3 days before arrival.
Philipines: Travel is only permitted to nationals or family of nationals of the Philippines. Passengers and airline crew are subject to a Coronavirus (COVID-19) test and quarantine.
South Korea: Travel is permitted however passengers are required quarantine for 14 days and to a PCR test for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on arrival.
Taiwan: Foreign nationals entering Taiwan must provide a negative COVID-19 PCR swab test result report completed in the 3 days prior to their flight.
Thailand: Travel is restricted for most, travel is only permitted for those who fit the criteria outlined here. You will be required to have a fit-to-fly health certificate, a medical certificate showing you tested negative for COVID-19 (PCR test) in 72 hours before your departure.
United Arab Emirates: Travel is restricted to residents and citizens of the UAE and must have a medical certificate with a negative Coronavirus (COVID-19) test result issued at most 72 hours before departure. Effective July 7th tourism to Dubai is permitted, this requires a medical certificate with a negative Coronavirus (COVID-19) test result issued at most 96 hours before departure and health insurance.
Ethiopia: must have a medical certificate stating a negative Coronavirus (COVID-19) test result issued at most 72 hours before arrival or are subject to quarantine for 14 days.
Australia: Travel to Australia is limited to Australian citizens and residents. Those travelling to Australia are required to do a mandatory 14-day quarantine at a designated facility on arrival.
New Zealand: The New Zealand border is currently closed to all excluding residents and citizens, for other exceptions please contact Immigration New Zealand.
Fiji: Flights are restricted to nationals and must go in to quarantine for a period of 14 days.
