Coronavirus (COVID-19) Testing

If you are concerned about coronavirus (COVID-19) and would like to be tested privately, we are now able to offer you both the latest Covid Antibody Test from Abbott Laboratories (to check if you have already had the virus and developed antibodies) and a PCR Swab Test (to check whether your current symptoms are due the virus).

COVID-19 Antibody Test

The coronavirus antibody test checks for IgG antibodies which are created in our bodies in response to the COVID-19 infection.

This test will show whether you have had the virus in the past and developed antibodies and potential immunity to COVID-19.

We currently use a test made by Abbott Laboratories (a Global Pharmaceutical company), which has been PHE Approved.

This test has shown to have a Test Specificity of 100%, which is identical to the Roche test (currently not available for private use).

Customers purchasing one of our Abbott Antibody Tests will be eligible for a significant discount for any future Covid-19 tests we release as they become commercially available.

The Antibody test can either be self-administered At-Home (finger prick blood test) or performed In-Clinic (standard blood test) by one of our GPs. The test must only be performed from at least 14 days after symptoms cease to ensure optimum reliability.

COVID-19 Swab Test

This swab test allows us to test whether you currently have coronavirus.

The kit is sent directly to your home. You will need to administer the test yourself taking a swab from your nose and throat, and then posting back to the laboratory in the pre-paid envelope included.

We will contact you with the result, normally available within 2-3 days. This will allow us to provide you with fast and reliable results regarding your COVID-19 status.

This test offers 99.9% reliability and instant results within 2-3 working days.

The COVID-19 swab test uses the PCR method of testing to detect COVID-19, which fulfils the performance criteria set by Public Health England (PHE).

Coronavirus (COVID-19) FAQs

Who Can Be Tested with the COVID-19 Antibody Test?

This test will confirm if you have HAD the virus recently and therefore this test is not suitable for patients who are worried they currently have symptoms of COVID-19.

You can have the test if you are 21 days or more after the onset of symptoms. The test will be invalid if done BEFORE this.”

If you think you may have already had the virus, it can be useful to know if you are immune in the short to medium term and therefore cannot infect vulnerable family, friends or work colleagues. It can also confirm if you are still vulnerable to the infection and refocus you on the importance of hand hygiene and social distancing measures.

Testing will be available for patients age 16 or older.

Who Can Be Tested with the COVID-19 Swab Test?

This test will confirm if you currently have coronavirus. You can have this test if you are currently symptomatic or 5 days after initial exposure.

Testing will be available for patients of all ages.

How can I trust the test and how accurate is it?

Our partner laboratory is an established UKAS-accredited laboratory that provides private testing to a number of London and UK clinics and hospitals.

The manufacturer of the Antibody test (Abbott Laboratories)  reports that an independent clinical performance evaluation of the test performed in the United Kingdom confirmed the following accuracy levels:

• Specificity (ability to identify negative cases) of 100%.
• Sensitivity (ability to identify positive cases) of 99.7%.

The test is CE Marked for Europe and has FDA EUA approval.

The test we are using is an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) test detecting IgG antibodies only, conducted by a UKAS accredited lab.

When can I expect my results and when will I be informed?

Our Laboratory normally processes and returns results within 24-48 hours for the antibody blood tests and 2-3 working days for swabs and from receiving the test at the laboratory. This is not a guarantee, as NHS samples may need to be prioritised at certain times.

One of the My Healthcare Clinic Doctors will inform you of your results via the email provided as soon as we receive them.

How is the test delivered to me and sent to the lab?

All tests are sent out to our patients using the Royal Mail 1st Class Recorded Delivery Tracked service which is included in the price.
If you book a test before 12pm, it will normally be despatched to you on the same day for arrival the next working day. We are currently experiencing extremely high demand for tests, therefore please allow 24-48 hrs for delivery at the current time.

All test packages include a pre-stamped envelope to be posted back to our laboratory.

Due to delays in the postal service at present, we recommend that you return the test to the laboratory using the Royal Mail Recorded Delivery or Special Delivery – Tracked service, in order to guarantee timely receipt by the lab or drop the sample directly to the lab or to one of our clinics.

My Healthcare Clinic will not be responsible for any delays due to the postal service, or lost tests.

If you are self-isolating, please enlist the help of a friend or neighbour to post the test for you.

We offer same day ‘in-clinic’ antibody blood test appointments with one of our doctors also which is the speediest and most accurate option.

What other delivery options are available?

We can also offer a sameday special courier service.  You must book by 12pm and we will deliver your test to any location specified (home, work).  The courier will return to the same location the following day and take the test to our laboratory.  Please call or email to check whether we can deliver to your area – we can normally deliver to any area within Greater London (i.e. within the M25).  This service starts from £25.

What is your cancellation policy?

Orders can only be refunded before they are processed and despatched to you.  We cannot refund orders after this time.  Please contact us immediately after order placement if you would like to cancel your order.

What is contained within the Antibody At-Home test kit?

You will receive the following:

  • Blood collection tube
  • Lancets
  • Test request form
  • Instruction leaflet
  • Biohazard plastic bag
  • Prepaid return envelope

How Do I perform the test at home?

The kit includes detailed instructions on how to use it, which you should read thoroughly before taking your blood sample.

Recommendation: most people are not experienced in the self-collection of their own blood.  The most successful outcomes are collected by patients who read the instructions given in each pack.

Please watch this video before taking your sample

Why should I come into clinic for a test instead of ordering the At-Home test kit?

We can often book patients in on the sameday for an antibody test with one of our doctors at our clinics with the sample urgently sent by courier to the lab.

This is the quickest way to get results back and is also the most accurate way to complete the test.

The Antibody At-Home test requires accurate technique to obtain a sufficient quantity of blood. We recommend In-Clinic testing by one of our doctors if you do not feel confident to administer the test at Home.

Protecting the NHS

Our ability to offer these tests privately is not or will not affect the ability of NHS workers or key workers from being tested for COVID-19. This work will always be prioritised by the lab.

Until recently, we have been unable to offer testing as our partner labs have been working to support the testing needs of the NHS. We strongly support this decision.

The lab have now informed us that due to increased capacity they are able to perform private testing allowing us to offer this service to help those who are not currently able to get tested on the NHS.

NHS Workers

We will also be able to offer a discount to NHS workers. Please email us at [email protected] to enquire about this.
