with Consultant Radiologist Dr Demitrios Tzias, from £375.

Ultrasound-Guided Steroid Injections

Ultrasound-guided steroid injections are an effective and accurate method to treat joint pains. Corticosteroids help reduce inflammation within a joint, often occurring following injury or general wear and tear of a joint. By treating this inflammation the symptoms of pain and swelling can be reduced.

Steroid injections can be used treat pain in a multitude of locations. Common sites include:

Knees
Shoulders
Hips
Elbows (i.e. golfer’s and tennis elbow)
Wrists (e.g. carpal tunnel syndrome)
Feet (e.g. plantar fasciitis)

At MyHealthcare Clinic we have a Consultant Radiologist who will administer these injections for you, ensuring you are only treated by a highly experienced clinician using the vary latest technology.

The procedure:

The process is simple and safe and normally takes around 20 minutes. After assessing your joint, our radiologist will discuss the treatment, its risks, benefits and any follow up advice you need prior to starting. The site of entry will be cleaned with antiseptic to reduce the risk of infection and a combination of steroid and local anaesthetic will be administered into a joint via a needle using ultrasound guidance. Once complete, you will be provided with further advice, be checked to ensure you are well and then can leave on your own.

What happens afterwards:

After a few hours the local anaesthetic will wear off and you may have some mild discomfort which will slowly improve over the coming days. The steroid will also be starting to work to reduce inflammation over a week or two to relieve your joint pain with pain control often lasting for many months. If required, you can have follow up joint injections in the future.
