Frequently asked questions
What can orthodontic treatment do for me?
Orthodontic treatment will:
- Close wide gaps between the teeth.
- Straighten crooked teeth, making sure the surfaces of the teeth are aligned.
- Improve speech and eating.
- Prevent long-term excessive teeth wear
How long does it take?
We offer systems such as CFastTM that can straighten your front teeth in as little as 4 months. These systems are not suitable for everyone so make sure you get expert advice before commencing your treatment. Our orthodontist team will be able to advise you on all options and how long your desired result will take.
Will I be able to see what my teeth will look like after treatment?
Yes, if you are considering having Invisalign® treatment, our ClinCheck® 3D animation will allow you to see the the result of your predicted Invisalign treatment even before you start the process. We are currently offering this at a 50% discount – ask the team when you come in for your no-obligation consultation.
What does having straight teeth really mean?
Having straight teeth can improve confidence levels, but having straighter teeth also can have a significant impact on your oral health too, as they are so much easier to clean! When you smile, people concentrate on your front teeth, so having straight teeth can make all the difference.
What dental services do you offer?
MyHealthcare Clinic offers comprehensive dental services in state of the art surroundings. Services include general dentistry and dental hygiene from our gentle, friendly hygienists. We offer both teeth whitening and teeth straightening as well as smile makeovers, repairs to chipped & broken teeth.
Not only do our dentists replace missing teeth, they work on inlays, crowns & veneers for dental patients as well as making and fitting bridges, implants & dentures using the very latest technology.
Are there health advantages to adult orthodontic treatment?
Everyone is different, but adult orthodontic treatment is really successful in treating many oral issues, from overcrowded teeth to gaps and spaces where food can get stuck and cause gum problems. We treat issues with your jaw that can even help you eat more easily – and look and feel better too.
What does adult orthodontic treatment feel like?
Having the brace fitted won’t hurt, but you might find taking ibuprofen or paracetamol for the first few days afterwards helps with any soreness around your teeth and gums. Having a fixed or removable brace works by slowly moving your teeth, which may cause passing discomfort. Plus you’ll have to wear it all the time for a length of time, but it’s easy to get used to, and your orthodontist will be able to help you with any questions or fears you may have.
Do you offer interest-free monthly payment plans?
We are happy to offer our patients a one year payment plan at 0% APR. And for longer payment options, we can offer patients 7.9% APR over 36 months and 9.9% APR over 60 months payment terms.
Does teeth straightening hurt?
One of the most common myths about teeth straightening is that it should really hurt, but advances in teeth straightening technology means we’ve come a long way – and that means being able to minimise any discomfort from having your teeth straightened. It’s not unusual to experience a bit of soreness or pain for the first few days after a brace has been fitted, but don’t worry, it’s completely normal and quickly passes. It just means your teeth are slowly starting to straighten.
If you feel any soreness, take over the counter painkillers like paracetamol or ibuprofen, or speak to your dentist.
What can I eat? Should I really avoid the foods on my orthodontist's "don't eat" list?
We always recommend you avoid any sugary drinks, including diet ones, any foods likely to irritate soft tissue if you’ve recently had dental surgery, and if you’ve had teeth whitening procedures, we recommend you avoid teeth staining drinks like tea, green tea, coffee and red wine.
If you’ve just had a brace fitted, eat soft foods for the first couple of days so you don’t break your brace. Whatever type of brace you have, you should avoid sticky, chewy and sugary foods. Chewing gum and toffee is not recommended! Hard foods such as whole apples, carrots, French bread and crusty rolls could break the wires and brackets that are part of your brace.
My teeth really hurt! What can I do to ease the pain?
Have you had an accident or suffered any trauma to your face? Is one of your teeth loose? Are your gums sore or bleeding? We always recommend speaking to a dental professional if you feel or notice any change in your teeth, or experience sudden pain. If you have recently had braces fitted or a filling, then over the counter pain killers should help ease any symptoms.
Don’t worry, it’s a good sign – you’re teeth are starting to straighten which means it’s working!
